 YES…always cite a direct quotation.

Type of information: The Gothic windows in the background indicates that in the couple's house the values of Christianity are fostered and taught. —Is citation needed? 
 YES…always credit another writer for his or her opinion, even if you don’t agree with it.

         Type of information: Almost all American cities would eventually suffer overcrowding, housing                                                                         shortages, slums, unemployment… pollution, and lack of recreational facilities —Is citation needed? 
YES…always credit an author’s generalization that is based on his or her own research and analysis.

NO…this is a paraphrase of information that can be found in many sources.

Type of information: By 2016, the bulk of the American population lived in cities with 2,500 people or more—Is citation needed? 
YES…always cite statistics that are not well known, doing so enables readers to evaluate the source of the data or to search for further information 

Type of information: The stock market crashed in 2013—Is citation needed? 
NO…the year of the first stock market crash is a common knowledge.
